Your holiday package includes the following as standard. There are no additional charges for maps, guides, or posting out holiday packs. Compare us to others and you will find we offer the best value self-guided walking holidays in South West England and Pembrokeshire.
Your holiday package includes bed and breakfast based accommodation beginning on the night before your walk starts. We carefully select our accommodation to ensure its quality, as we know how important it is to have a welcoming and comfortable place to stay at the end of a day's walking. We always try to book accommodation with en-suite or private bathroom facilities, but in some of the more remote locations this may not always be possible. If you need en-suite accommodation at each location, please let us know at the time of booking and we will arrange this, and transport where necessary when the accommodation is some distance from the route. There may be an extra cost for these transfers and we will advise of any costs before confirming the accommodation for you. We pride ourselves in our flexibility and if you have particular places where you want to stay, we will do our best to secure them for you. We believe in working with you to design an itinerary and choose accommodation, which suit your tastes, whether that be a farmhouse bed and breakfast, a character country inn or a five star hotel. We choose our accommodation as close to the route as possible, and also close to local amenities for dinner in the evening. There may be odd occasions where it is not possible to secure accommodation within 2 kilometres of your chosen route. In which case, we will arrange transport from the route to your accommodation and back again after breakfast the following morning. We always secure your accommodation as soon as possible after you book to ensure the widest choice of accommodation available.
No need to carry your bags, daily luggage transfer is included in your holiday package. Your holiday package includes the transfer of one bag for each member of your party. Each member of your party will be provided with a laminated luggage label to attach to their bag to clearly identify it. Your luggage will be collected and delivered between the hours on 9.00am and 4.30pm, so please have your bags ready for collection when you leave each day and it will be waiting for you when you arrive at your next destination. Please ensure that your bag does not weigh more than 20kg, as overweigh bags may incur an additional charge. If you would like additional items of luggage to be transferred, please let us know at the time of booking and we will include this in your holiday package for a small additional cost and provide additional luggage labels.
Some of our walkers want to carry their own luggage and this is fine with us. If you want to carry your own luggage, please let us know when booking and we will reduce the cost of your holiday accordingly.
Your walking holiday package includes both maps and guides. We provide one set of maps and guides for a party of up to four and an additional set for each two party members. Having an Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale map is extremely helpful if you need to get an overview of a wider area, rather than just your route. The maps are either the A to Z Adventure Maps 1:25,000 (4cm=1km) scale maps based on Ordnance Survey maps, Zigzag 1:16,000 (6.25cm=1km) or 1:25,000 (4cm=1km) laminated maps or our own 1:25,000 (4cm=1km) Ordnance Survey maps, which are printed on waterproof/tearproof paper. Our walkers tell us that our own printed maps are virtually indestructible, even when they get soaked in poor weather!! Check out the positive comments from previous walkers here. The A to Z Adventure map is produced in a convenient book format and our own maps are printed on A4 size paper. Both are easy to use and more convenient than trying to unfold a large size map, particularly in wet or windy weather! We currently provide the A to Z maps for walkers on the South West Coast Path, Pembrokeshire Coast Path and Cotswold Way, Zigzap maps on the Devon Coast to Coast/Two Moors Way, Coleridge Way and Saints Way and our own maps for walkers on our other routes.
We have chosen a range of different walking guides to include in your holiday pack. For walkers on the South West Coast Path, Pembrokeshire Coast Path and Cotswold Way we suggest either the National Trail Guide or the Trailblazers Guide, depending on the itinerary you have chosen. If you have a particular preference as to your guide, please let us know when booking. For walkers on the Devon Coast Coast/Two Moors Way we will be using the new Cicerone Two Moors Way guide for 2016 for those walking from South to North. For Two Moors Way walkers treking from North to South we will continue to use the guide produced by Devon County Council.
We use the specialist guides produced for our other walking routes including the Coleridge Way, Exe Valley Way, Macmillan Way, Macmillan Way West, Saints Way, Smugglers Way and Tarka Trail. Remember that in addition to the OS maps and guide book we are also able to provide a full set of GPS waymarkers for your chosen walking route. These are in the form of a .GPX file for loading to your hand held GPS equipment to provide you with added confidence that you are going in the correct direction.
Your holiday pack will also include a detailed itinerary. Within two weeks of making your booking, we will sent you a copy of the draft itinerary, which includes details of your proposed accommodation, for your approval. The final itinerary, included in your holiday pack, will have full details of your accommodation and directions from your chosen route, with location map as necessary, their contact details, details of dinner arrangements or reservations if we have made them on your behalf.
Your itinerary will also include useful information for your walking day, including latest route known diversions, details of any ferry crossings, taxi pick-up/drop-off arrangements as necessary with full contact details, suggestions for lunch or recommendations to take a packed lunch as necessary. An example of the walking itinerary included in our holiday packs can be found here.
You may already have seen the route profiles included on our website, which we have included to help you get an impression of the "ups and downs" on each walking day. It is often the amount and frequency of climbs, rather than the distance that makes a day challenging. A full set of route profiles and milestones for your route will be included in your holiday pack to help you pace your day. An example can be found here.
Your holiday pack, including itinerary, maps and guides, route profiles and luggage labels will be professionally presented in a ziplock clear plastic wallet with map case to help protect the contents from the worst of the UK weather. Although we always ask for good weather for your holiday but we can't claim a 100% success rate and the plastic map case provides protection for the material that you need to carry with you each day. If you are using the Zigzag or our own maps they don't really need this added protection, being waterproof and tearproof!
