The rugged North Devon Coast has the highest point on the South West Coast Path at Great Hangman (318m). This sums up the challenge offered by this stretch of coast! However, it is not all hard work as there are many attractions that make it all worthwhile. There are the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, linked by their water powered funicular railway, the coastal resort of Ilfracombe, the surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, the picturesque villages of Instow and Appledore standing on opposite banks of the River Torridge and Clovelly with its timeless charm to name but a few!
After leaving Plymouth, the South Devon coast is gentler in nature, although still remote in places. It offers many attractive villages, as well as a number of river crossings en-route to Salcombe. Once around Start Point with its lighthouse, we head north to cross Slapton sands with it sad links to World War 2. After leaving Dartmouth, we pass through the English Riviera resorts of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay before following the more remote stretch of coast to Shaldon and Teignmouth. Then it is on through Dawlish to Starcross, to cross the River Exe to Exmouth. We now begin the walk along start of the Jurassic Coast through Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and Seaton.
This delightful walking break takes you along a beautiful South Devon coastline whilst never being too far from towns and villages. Livermead BeachThere are some tremendous seaside towns: namely Torquay, Teignmouth, Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton with grand Regency and Victorian buildings, and then there are also the pretty villages of Shaldon and Cockwood.
This North Devon walking break offers two walks on the The South West Coast Path from Lynmouth/Lynton to Combe Martin (13.0 miles / 21.0km graded Strenuous) and Combe Martin to Woolacombe (13.0 miles / 21.0km graded Moderate). Shorter distances can be arranged if you prefer.
This beautiful river valley walk takes you from the highland of Exmoor to the south coast of Devon, predominantly over footpaths and minor roads. At the northern end, the Walk follows many of The Exe's many tributaries, particularly, the Barle. The Route criss-crosses over the river many times, passing through steeply wooded valleys and unspoilt countryside, small villages and market towns, as well as the city of Exeter with its grand cathedral and university.
Named after Henry Williamson's classic book 'Tarka the Otter' and the location for the film of the same title, the Tarka Trail offers a variety of scenery. Our tour takes you round the northern loop, through the Exmoor National Park and along the dramatic North Devon coast.
The Two Moors links together Dartmoor and Exmoor, arguably the two best known moors in the UK. It takes you through high granite tors amid heather and bracken covered moorland, to deep tree covered valleys with meandering, babbling rivers. You will feel at one with nature as you can walk for miles and not see any sign of recent human habitation.
